Oneida/Scott Move Up In TSSAA Football Classifications

Nashville, TN (2008-10-21) Based on the Fall enrollment numbers, both local high schools will be moving up in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) football classifications next year.

According to the latest information from the TSSAA, Oneida High School and Scott High School will change football classifications in 2009.  The change was the result of increased enrollment at both schools.

In the report from the sanctioning body, Oneida High School had an enrollment of 405 students, meaning the long time single-A school will be bumped up in the classifications to 2-A.  The last time Oneida was paired with 2-A schools was 1993, the year after the school won the State Championship in single-A football.  Four years later, enrollment was down and the school returned to single-A ranks.

Scott High has been a three-A competitor for years, having been paired with teams from both East and Middle Tennessee.  With an enrollment of 805 students, Scott High will join the ranks of four-A football in 2009.  Eight hundred students is the minimum enrollment for a four-A school.

Other 2-A schools around the region include:  Jellico High School; Oliver Springs High School; Rockwood High School and Wartburg Central.

Other four-A schools around the area include:  Carter High School; Gibbs High School; Fulton High School; Livingston Academy and Stone Memorial High School.

Schools will have until Monday, October 27, 2008 to request permission to move up into a higher classification.

All schools will be placed in districts and regions in all sports on November 13, 2008, during the TSSAA Board of Control Meeting at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Murfreesboro.
