Oneida, TN (2008-10-27) An early Monday morning fire completely destroyed an Oneida home on Shepherd Road.
According to Oneida Fire Chief Mike Stringer, the Oneida Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1033 Shepherd Road in Oneida around 5:41 a.m. Monday morning. When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, the home, which was reportedly owned by George (Anthony) Sexton and his wife, Mary, was fully engulfed. The home’s roof, stated Stringer, had already been compromised and the upper support structure had already collapsed.
Eight firefighters from the Oneida Fire Department, along with three firefighters and a tanker truck from Mid-County Fire Department, battled the fire and brought it under control. Firefighters remained on scene from nearly six hours, dousing the embers.
The homeowners were out of town at the time of the blaze. The house was a total loss.
K-9 Officer Steven Ward and Patrolman Creston Burton from the Oneida Police Department aided the fire department.
