24% Vote Early; Election November 4
Huntsville, TN (2008-10-30) Twenty four percent of the county’s eligible registered voters have already cast ballots in next Tuesday’s General and Municipal Election.
According to Administrator of Elections Gabe Lowe, a total of 3,360 persons (24%) of Scott County’s registered voters chose to participate in the state’s 14-day Early Voting period. In comparison, four years ago, 4,073 people voted early, about 31 percent of the electorate. Currently, there are 13,886 registered voters in Scott County.
Of the total, 3,150 were cast in person, while 167 were cast absentee by mail. Another 43 ballots were cast by residents of area nursing homes. In the municipal elections, 274 voted in Huntsville, while 134 voted in Winfield.
Early voters by precinct included: Fairview, 355; Elgin, 118; Robbins, 171; Huntsville, 423; Paint Rock, 54; Helenwood, 464; Pine Hill, 187; Winfield, 284; Oneida, 567; and West Oneida, 736.
On the General Election ballot, voters will be voting for
President of the United States, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives (4th
Congressional District), State Senate (12th District) and State
House of Representatives (38th District). In the municipal elections, the voters of the Town of Huntsville
will be selecting a Mayor and four Aldermen, while the people of the Town of
Winfield will chose two Aldermen.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, 2008. In order to expedite the polling process on Election Day, voters are reminded they must show identification when they appear to vote.
