Final Day of Early Voting Today

 

            Huntsville, TN (2008-10-29) With only one day remaining in Early Voting, nearly 3000 local voters have cast ballots in the November 4, 2008 General and Municipal Election.

            According to Administration of Elections Gabe Lowe, as of the close of the polls on Wednesday, 2806 persons had cost vote in the November 4, 2008 General and Municipal Election.  Wednesday was the busiest day thus far in the Early Voting period with 362 people casting ballots.  In all, 2603 people have already cast their preferences by personal appearance at one of the county’s two Early Voting precincts.  Another 160 ballots were cast by mail, along with 43 votes by residents of area nursing homes.

Roughly 20% of the registered voters in the county have already cast ballots in next Tuesday’s election.

Two-hundred and forty-two persons have voted in the Huntsville Municipal Election, while 124 people have voted in the Winfield election.  In Huntsville, citizens are selecting a mayor and four aldermen.  Two alderman seats are up for election in Winfield.

On the General Election ballot, voters will be voting for President of the United States, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives (4th Congressional District), State Senate (12th District) and State House of Representatives (38th District).

Thus far, the greatest concentration of early votes has come from the seventh district, as 597 from the West Oneida precinct have already voted.  In Fairview, 300 registered voters have cast ballots, while 251 have voted in the second district, including 106 in Elgin and 145 in Robbins.  In the third district, 307 from Huntsville have voted, while 45 persons from Paint Rock have cast their preference.  In Helenwood, 384 have voted.  In the fifth district, 409 persons have cast ballots, including 154 in Pine Hill and another 249 from Winfield.  In the sixth district, 456 persons have voted.

            Polls will be open today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Early Voting precincts are located at the Scott County Election Commission Office, 2845 Baker Highway in Huntsville and the Oneida Municipal Building, 121 Municipal Drive in Oneida.

Voters must show identification when they appear to vote, both during the Early Voting period and on Election Day.
