Lambert Named Assistant Coach For 2nd Annual East vs. West All-Star Classic

Columbia, TN (2008-11-09) The Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association and the Tennessee Toyota Dealers have announced the assistant coaches for the 2nd Annual Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic.  Oneida Head Football Coach Tony Lambert is again on the roster.

The game will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Burke-Tarr Stadium at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City. Seven TSSAA state championships will be represented on the respective coaching staffs. Middle Tennessee Christian School’s Philip Shadowens will be the head coach of the defending champion East squad. Shadowens won state championships at Class 5A Smyrna in 2006 and 2007. Tony Lambert of Oneida, Tim Daniels of Red Bank, Buck Coatney of Knoxville Fulton, and Farragut’s Eddie Courtney will assist him. Buck Coatney’s Fulton Falcons won state championships in 2003, 2004, and 2006 in class 3A.  Lambert was also an assistant coach for the first-ever East/West All-Star Classic last year.

Kevin Ward of Camden will lead the West coaching staff. His assistant coaches include Crockett County’s P.A. Pratt, Paul Wade of Davidson Academy, Chris Wiley of Arlington, Joe Welch of Bolton, and Carey Craig of Jackson South Side. Coach Paul Wade’s Davidson Academy team won Division II-A state championships in 2005 and 2006. One assistant coach for each team will be named at a later date.

Nomination forms from coaches across the state have been returned to the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association. The player selection process is underway, and the teams will be announced in advance of the TSSAA state championship games. The game will feature approximately 90 of Tennessee’s top high school football seniors divided into East and West teams. Several Division I commitments are expected to play in the game, and it will also give other undecided seniors an opportunity to shine in front of college coaches and a state-wide television audience. The teams will begin practice for the 2nd Annual Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic on December 9th. Several exciting events are being planned in conjunction with the game including a trip for the teams to Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, and an interactive Toyota Village for fans attending the game.

Tennessee Toyota Dealers will again sponsor this year’s East vs. West All-Star Classic.  For more information about this year’s Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic, go to the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association website, www.taca.net.
