Lincoln Davis Announces Grant for Winfield Volunteer Fire Department

Washington, D.C. (2008-11-12) U.S. Representative Lincoln Davis today announced a $29,688 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program to the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department for fire operations and firefighter safety.

“This grant will help provide our brave firefighters with the needed training and equipment to adequately protect themselves and effectively serve the community,” Davis said. “Our firefighters have difficult and hazardous jobs, and one way we can thank them for their work is by putting these resources towards their efforts.”

The department will purchase extrication equipment with the money.  The equipment, stated a department spokesman, would be used to supplement the efforts of the Scott County Rescue Squad, which is the primary emergency rescue operations organization in the county.  Recently, the Oneida Fire Department also received grant funding to purchase extrication equipment.

The grant was awarded specifically for fire operations and firefighter safety. This program is supported through the Assistance to Firefighter Grants. This program grant encompasses training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.
