School Volunteers Honored

Huntsville, TN (2008-11-13) The Scott County School System honored several school volunteers Thursday night in Huntsville.  While the district recognized those who support its efforts, another local organization expressed its appreciation for the schools’ contributions to their cause.

The Scott County Board of Education honored several volunteers Thursday night, recognizing seven persons that give of their time and talent to make the district’s educational learning experience better.  Those honored at the Board meeting were:  Dusty Chambers, Burchfield Elementary School—Dusty Chambers; Fairview Elementary School—Brian Russ; Huntsville Elementary School—Natasha Byrd; Huntsville Middle School—Shonda Crabtree; Robbins Elementary School—Olivia Shannon; Scott High School—Randall Stephens; and Winfield Elementary School—Jennifer Trammell.

While the school system honored those that lent a helping hand to it last month, another community organization recognized the school system for its contribution to its effort.  Scott County Imagination Library Chairperson Lori Phillips Jones recognized the Scott County Board of Education Thursday night for being the November sponsor of the organization’s local book drive.  Each month, kids from birth to five years of age receive a free book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.  The parent organization, along with the Tennessee Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation, covers half the cost of the monthly distribution; however, the books wouldn’t be possible without the contribution of local organizations.

If you have a child less than five years of age, you may sign up at anytime to receive these free books at www.imaginationlibrary.org or by calling Ms. Jones at 423.569.3975.
