Huntsville, TN (2008-11-17) Budget cuts in these slow economic times have forced Roane State Community College to announce the closure of their Campbell, Cumberland, Fentress, Loudon, Morgan, and Scott County center on Fridays during the Spring 2009 semester. The Summer 2009 semester may also be affected by the cuts.
Beginning in the Spring 2009 semester, centers in Campbell, Cumberland, Fentress, Loudon, Morgan, and Scott Counties will be closed on Fridays. Another plan that has not yet been finalized is the possibility of closing the Campbell, Fentress, Loudon, Morgan, and Scott County Centers for six to eight weeks during the summer 2009 semester.
Roane State Community College (RSCC) President Gary Goff, in a letter addressed to Mayor Rick Keeton, noted that due to the current financial conditions in Tennessee, the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) had to reduce the appropriations for each of the colleges and universities within the TBR system. Over the past 5 months, the institution had been forced to make nearly $1.1 million in budget cuts as a result of lower State appropriation revenue. Through a combination of belt-tightening and reserves, RSCC was able to generate needed funds. However, further cutbacks totaling $644,000 expected in early 2009 have forced the more drastic measures.
