Commission Honors 55th Scott County Eagle Scout

 

Huntsville, TN (2010-08-16) The Scott County Commission honored the 55th Eagle Scout in the long history of Scott County Troop 93 Monday night.

Sterlin Wilson, 15, earned the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America, when on July 29, 2010, he was named Troop 93’s 55th Eagle Scout. Sterlin, the son of Chris Wilson and Bonnie Hughett of Oneida, has earned 61 merit badges. He is the recipient of the Leave No Trace Award, The World Conservation Award, The Religious Knot of Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting, and is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow Scouting National Merit Society since June 2008.

Sterlin’s Eagle Scout project was to replace and add a changeable message board at the Highpoint United Baptist Church and to replace the Border at the Troxel Cemetery. During the 109 hour project he was assisted by scouts, parents, church members, and leaders of Troop 93. The Commission congratulated Sterlin on his accomplishment, and wished continued success to Troop 93.

In other business Monday night, the Commission:

·        Renewed its contract with ETHRA for the Office on Aging, for the period from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2001. The contract is for $16,360;

·        Approved the 2010-2011 TDOT Litter grant, with a maximum liability of $29,237;

·        Accepted the recommendation of the Scott County Library Board to appoint Dan Scott to a three-year term on the Board, retroactive to April 1, 2010;

·        Went on record in support of an appeal of the US Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration’s decision to disallow certain Armstrong Wood Industries employees access to benefits under the federal trade adjustment assistance program;

·        Passed a resolution requesting Governor Phil Bredesen temporarily suspend eligibility requirements placed on applicants for stimulus funds jobs, the 150 positions created earlier this year with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds.  Futhermore, the Commission asked the State to extend the deadline for expending ARRA job funds beyond the current September 30, 2010 deadline; and,

·        Bid farewell to six departing Commissioners, including Leonard Bertram, Odeva Byrd, Rothel “Tub” Cross, Daniel Murley, James “Jeff” Watson, and Clyde Zachary.
