Nicholas Named Superintendent of BSF NRRA

Oneida, TN (2011-01-13) A former Resource Manager at Yosemite National Park in California and a former TVA ecologist with the Tennessee Valley Authority has been named the new Superintendent of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

Niki Stephanie Nicholas will become the new Superintendent of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area on January 17, 2011, assuming the post left vacant by the retirement of Stennis Young in December.  Nicholas will come to the Big South Fork from Yosemite National Park, where, for the last seven years, she has been the Chief of Resource Management and Science.

Dr. Nicholas, who holds a Ph.D. in Forestry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, isn’t new to East Tennessee.  Prior to becoming Chief of Resource Management at Yosemite in December 2004, she was the Senior Manager of Environmental Impact and Reduction Technologies of Tennessee Valley Authority’s Public Power Institute.  She earned her Masters Degree in Ecology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  She had also held other positions with the National Park Service and the State of Virginia.

Dr. Nicholas will replace Stennis Young, who had served as Superintendent of the Big South Fork since January 2009.
