Give Blood, Beat Vandy In 10th Annual Blood Drive Competition

Knoxville, TN (2011-01-28) Lady Vol fans are set to challenge Vanderbilt’s Lady Commodore fans in the 10th annual Bleed Orange Blood Drive Competition.  This week long event kicks off Monday February 7 at all Medic Regional Blood Center blood drive locations.  Lady Vol fans brought home a victory last year and Volunteer fans want the traveling trophy to stay in Knoxville!

Area patients are counting on us to improve local hospital blood supplies, while proving the Volunteer spirit is alive and well in East Tennessee!  All donors participating will also receive a coupon for a free spicy chicken biscuit from Chick-fil-A, a special limited edition Lady Vols t-shirt and the satisfaction of helping us “Slam the Dores” in this annual competition.  The winner of the contest will be announced during the Lady Vols/Vanderbilt game in Nashville on Sunday February 13.

Donors can stop by any blood drive location to give blood.  A complete schedule can be found at Medic’s website at www.medicblood.org or by calling 865-524-3074.  Here in Scott County, Medic’s Bloodmobile will be at Walgreens in Oneida on February 10, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Donors must be at least 17 years age, weigh 110 pounds (16 year-olds weighing 120 pounds can donate but must have parental consent) and all donors must have positive identification.

Medic Headquarters is located at 1601 Ailor Avenue at the Intersection of Western Avenue and 17th Street. Medic also has a donor center at 11000 Kingston Pike in Farragut (behind Pittsburgh Paints).  Medic is the only blood collector and supplier for 27 hospitals in 21 counties.
