Boys And Girls Club of Scott County Plans Events To Celebrate National Boys And Girls Club Week, March 21-25

 

Oneida, TN (2011-03-14) The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Cumberland Plateau will join some 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs across America and on U.S. military bases overseas in the annual celebration of National Boys & Girls Club Week, March 21-25, 2011.

For more than 75 years, Boys & Girls Clubs have celebrated this week in a variety of ways which support the organization’s overarching goal to help each child reach his full potential and achieve a great future. This year, the Boys & Girls Club of Scott County plans to take this opportunity to promote four Club outcome areas: Healthy Lifestyles, Academic Success, Character and Citizenship, and Sport, Fitness, and Recreation.

            During National Boys & Girls Club Week, the local club will hold the following activities and events:

  • Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. – You’re invited to an open house and learn how Clubs encourage youth to develop good character and citizenship and more; then at 6:30 p.m., unite with club members, staff, and other members of the public to promote a healthy lifestyle by joining Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) attempt to receive the Guinness World Record title for the most star jumps (jumping jacks) completed in two consecutive minutes.
  • Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. – Club Members vs. Local Celebrity and Staff basketball game demonstrating the club’s sport, fitness, and recreation programs.
  • Friday, March 25, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. – The local club will host a viewing party of the critically acclaimed documentary, Waiting for “Superman.” The film is intended to ignite conversation about the Club and community’s role in ensuring all youth achieve academic success. The film was made available through the BGCA’s partnership with Participant Media and the Boys & Girls Club of Scott County is one of 1,200 Boys & Girls Club organizations to receive a complimentary copy of the DVD.
  • Tuesday, March 22, 2011 and Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. You can support the academic success of the community by sponsoring a Bookmark Fair where you can select one new book or audio book for each bookmark purchased.
