Six Apply For Scott County Director of Schools’ Job

Huntsville, TN (2011-04-01) Six people are interested in becoming the next Director of the Scott County School System.

The Scott County Board of Education has six applicants to consider for the head administrative job for the Scott County School System.  On Friday, the deadline lapsed on the month-long window for interested applicants to submit resumes for the Director of Schools position, a job being vacated by four year Director Sharon Wilson, who will retire in June.

Of the six who applied for the job, three are local, two live outside the county, but in Tennessee and one candidate resides in Indiana.

On the local scene, three current Principals in the system have applied.  Scott High School Principal Bill Hall, Burchfield Elementary School Principal Randy Shelton, and Huntsville Middle School Principal (Luther) LaMance Bryant have each expressed their interest in the job.

Hall has been Principal of Scott High since 2007.  Prior to being named Principal, he had been an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at the school for six years.  Shelton has been an employee of the Scott County School System since 1989.  Prior to working for the Scott County, he was a teacher at Oneida High School.  He began his teacher career in McCreary County.  Bryant began working for the Scott County School System in 1997 at Fairview Elementary School, where he taught 7th and 8th grade math.  He was named the Principal of Huntsville Middle School in 2001.

In addition to the local applicants, the district also received three others:  Dr. Roger Terry, the current Supervisor of Operations and Curriculum Specialists for the Clinton City School System; Dr. Joseph A. Miller, Assistant Principal of Sunbright High School; and Arthur Politz, a retired educator from Jasonville, IN.

The Scott County Board of Education will consider the applicants at its next work session, which will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.  During that meeting, the Board will likely evaluate the potential candidates.   At its regular meeting on April 14, 2011, the Board may determine the scope of its interviews with the potential finalists for the job.  Those interviews will likely be held the week(s) of April 18, 2011 and April 25, 2011.

Should the process proceed as planned, the Board would likely hold a special-called meeting on the evening of its May work session (Tuesday, May 3, 2011) to select a new Director.  The measure would then be ratified and the Director’s contract approved at the Board’s regular meeting on May 12, 2011.
