Helenwood Pair Arrested Near Marijuana Plot

 

            Helenwood, TN (2011-05-10) Two Helenwood men have been arrested following the discovery of several potted marijuana plants in Helenwood.

            Brant Franklin Phillips, 23, and Jonny Joe Thomas, 28, both of Helenwood were arrested shortly after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning in the woods just off Old Jamestown Road in Helenwood.  The pair has been accused of tending to a marijuana crop a short distance from the Scott County Justice Center.

According to Scott County Sheriff Mike Cross, Sgt. Danny Phillips, while responding to another call, spotted a suspicious vehicle parked in the woods several feet off the roadway on Old Jamestown Road late Tuesday morning.  A follow up investigation uncovered a small plot of potted marijuana plants in the woods near the vehicle.

            Sheriff Cross, along with Deputy Kris Lewallen responded to the scene.  A short time later, the two suspects were spotted walking through the woods.

            Phillips was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of schedule III, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Thomas was charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
