Commission Honors Dedicated Volunteer
Huntsville,
TN (2011-05-16) On Monday night, the Scott
County Commission honored a dedicated Scott County
man who has served his country and community faithfully for many years.
The
Commission unanimously passed a resolution honoring Charles F. May, recognized
for his distinguished military service to his country and his many years of
dedicated and charitable service to the people of Scott County.
May,
who retired from the United States Army after 22 years of distinguished
service, which included service in World War II,
Korea, and Vietnam, dedicated his life to serving God, his
country and his fellow man after being released for a prison camp in Korea on
November 14, 1951. Charlie has been instrumental to the work and service of
many charitable organizations, civic clubs, and governing bodies in Scott
County, including serving as President for the Oneida Kiwanis Club and Scott
County Chamber of Commerce, Steering Committee member and current member of the
Scott County E-911 Board of Directors, as well as past Chairman and organizer
of the Scott County Rural Area Development Committee.
May
served as organizer of the annual Scott County Health Fair for 10 years, and as Director of Scott County’s Emergency Food
Assistance Program from 1991 to February of 2011. He is a lifetime member of
the VFW, member of the American Foreign Legion Post #136, and organizer of the
family support group for National Guard Servicemen and women.
May
was inducted into the Boys and Girls Club of Scott County Hall of Fame in 2008.
