Former Hospital Employee Charged With More Than 200 Additional
Counts Of Taking Prescription Meds
Oneida, TN (2011-05-16) A former
employee of St. Mary’s Medical Center of Scott County who had been accused of illegally
taking prescription medications from the hospital pharmacy last month has been
charged with more than 200 additional counts.
Nikita
Prewitt, 27, of Oneida
was arrested on additional charges last week following a more in-depth
investigation into allegation that she had taken medications from the hospital
pharmacy. According to an arrest warrant
filed by Officer Blake Murphy of the Oneida Police Department, a follow-up
investigation into allegations that Prewitt has taken medications from the
hospital dispensary supposedly revealed more than 200 additional occurrences. According to investigators, Prewitt was
allegedly logging the medication out of the hospital’s computer-controlled
dispensary system, but patient medication logs show the meds were never given
out.
As result, Prewitt was charged with 248 counts
of theft under $500, and an additional 244 counts of obtaining a controlled
substance by fraud. Originally, Prewitt
had been charged with ten counts of each.
