Job Fair Will Connect Job Seekers With Employers

Huntsville, TN (2011-05-18) On Friday, unemployed and underemployed workers will have an opportunity to connect with potential employers at the fourth annual Scott County Job Fair at the Tennessee Technology Center in Huntsville.

From 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, job hunters will have the chance to share their skills and abilities with a number of local and regional employers, who are scheduled to participate in the fourth annual Scott County Job Fair on the Huntsville campus of Tennessee Technology Center of Oneida/Huntsville.

The event will be a networking event, as employees and employers will gather in one location to discuss job availability and potential future job growth, along with the job skills needed for employment.  The fair is targeted toward past, present and future graduates of the Technology Center and area high school seniors, but is open to anyone in Scott, Morgan, Fentress or McCreary County.

In addition to local and regional businesses and industries, the Tennessee Department of Labor’s new Career Coach will be on campus throughout the event.  The Career Coach is a mobile, ten-workstation computer lab classroom with high-speed Internet connection.  “The mobile units serve multiple purposes,” said Lynn Gibbs, coordinator for the middle Tennessee coach. “Job applicants can register for work and search available openings online. They can also take part in the three workshops we offer – résumé preparation, job search skills, and interviewing skills.”

Because 31 of the state’s 95 counties have limited Career Center services, the coaches extend job recruitment and training activities to those areas. These 31 counties have little or no Labor staff present, although Work Investment Area staff may be available. “It’s hard enough to be unemployed, but having to drive 30 to 50 miles to a Career Center creates an extra hardship, with gas costing more than $3 a gallon,” said Gibbs. “We hope when people see the mobile units they will be a positive sign that jobs are not far behind.”

Admission to the Scott County Fair is free.  The Huntsville campus of the local Technology Center is located at 355 Scott High Drive.  For more information about the Job Fair, you may call the Tennessee Technology Center at (423) 663-4900.

The Job Fair is a joint effort of the Industrial Development Board of Scott County and the Tennessee Technology Center of Oneida/Huntsville.
