Single Vehicle Traffic Crash Injures One

Winfield, TN (2011-07-26) A single vehicle accident sent one person to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Larry G. Gregory, 50, of Winfield, driver and sole occupant of a 1995 Ford F-150, was reportedly southbound on US27 just south of its intersection with Pine Grove Road when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle. Gregory’s truck initially went off the southbound shoulder of the highway and into the ditch. He then reportedly over-corrected, resulting in the vehicle careening back across the highway and plunging down an embankment on the northbound shoulder. The vehicle reportedly struck a clump of trees just off the shoulder of the highway; resulting in Gregory being ejected from the vehicle.

Gregory was treated at the scene by the Scott County Emergency Medical Services. He was transported by ambulance to the helipad at the Saint Mary’s Medical Center of Scott County, and airlifted to a Knoxville hospital by Lifestar.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Winfield Police Chief Steve Trammell. Trammell was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Marvin Buttram and Deputy Abby Duncan of the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, along with a unit from the Winfield Fire Department.
