Oneida Man Charged With Drug Possession Near Oneida Schools

Oneida, TN (2011-09-21) An Oneida man is facing multiple drug charges after being stopped near Oneida High School while allegedly in the possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Matthew D. Adkisson, 19, of Oneida has been charged with multiple drug offenses following a traffic stop near Oneida High School.  According to arrest warrant filed by Officer Michael Blaker of the Oneida Police Department, he observed Adkisson, the driver of a 2008 Honda passenger car, in the parking lot of Oneida High School while on routine patrol in the area.  As he approached the parking lot, Adkisson reportedly sped away from the lot in the opposite direction.  Unable to make out the driver because of dark window tinting on the vehicle, Blaker stopped it near the school.

Behind the wheel, Adkisson was said to be extremely nervous and shaking uncontrollably.  While requesting routine information from the driver, Officer Blaker reportedly observed a rolled cigarette butt in Adkisson’s lap and a cup of water in the vehicle’s console, both which could be associated with the intravenous injection of drugs.

After exiting the vehicle on the request of the officer, Adkisson reportedly asked permission to get a cigarette from the vehicle.  Officer Blaker reportedly retrieved the suspect’s cigarette pack.  Upon opening the box, Officer Blaker reportedly found four Xanax bars inside.

With the assistance of Trooper Mark Chitwood of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and K-9 Officer Floyd Sexton of the Oneida Police Department, Officer Blaker searched the vehicle, reportedly finding additional drugs, a marijuana cigarette and other paraphernalia, including a used syringe inside a soft drink can.

Upon locating the drugs and other paraphernalia from the vehicle, Trooper Chitwood went back to the school lot where Adkisson had been parked.  Near the location, Trooper Chitwood allegedly found a sunglass case containing Oxycodone and additional syringes.

Adkisson was charged with possession of schedule II and IV narcotics for resale, possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of the drug free school zone act, and violation of the state’s window tint law.
