Oneida Woman Booked For Selling Drugs Near Local School

            Oneida, TN (2011-09-29) An Oneida woman is facing drug charges for allegedly selling narcotics near a local elementary school.

            Sharon Kay Barnes, 47, of Oneida was booked into the Scott County Jail on Tuesday following a drug operation conducted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.  Barnes allegedly sold narcotics to another person at a convenience store near the campus of Burchfield Elementary School in west Oneida.

As result, Barnes was charged with the sale of a schedule II control substance and violation of the drug free school zone act.

In addition to the pills, Barnes, when arrested, was reportedly in possession of more than $2,000 in cash.

Barnes’ son, Matthew D. Adkisson, 19, of Oneida was arrested on September 21, 2011 by Oneida authorities for allegedly possessing drugs on and near the campus of Oneida High School.  Authorities alleged Adkisson dumped a case containing drugs and syringes on school property before attempting to leave the campus.  After being pulled over near the school, authorities allegedly found drugs and drug paraphernalia in his car, leading them back to the school parking lot, where the case was allegedly found.

Recently, the Scott County Sheriff’s Department has stepped up its drug enforcement campaign, actively working the streets to intercept illegal narcotics.  “We’ve ramped up our drug interdiction efforts,” commented Scott County Sheriff Mike Cross.  Lately, officers have been patrolling the highways looking for suspected drug activity.

Last week, officers arrested four persons during traffic stops:

Timothy Kyle Spradlin, 24, of Winfield was booked on September 26, 2011 for possession of a schedule II controlled substance;

Terrence Daniel Hughett, 25, of Pioneer was charged with possession of a schedule III controlled substance on September 27, 2011;

Teddy Lee Dople, 40, of Pine Knot, KY was booked on September 27, 2011 for possession of a schedule III controlled substance and simple possession of marijuana; and,

Billy Joe Bowling, 29, of Oneida was charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on September 27, 2011.

Local authorities also arrested Terry Richard Morrow, 39, of Oneida on September 24, 2011.  Morrow was wanted on outstanding charges by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.  He was one of only four persons that successfully eluded local authorities during a drug roundup on September 5, 2011.  Morrow was booked on charges of selling a schedule VI controlled substance.
