One Dead; One Injured In Cherry Fork Shooting

 

            Oneida, TN (2011-09-30) One man is dead, his brother injured and a third person is in jail following a shooting Thursday night in the Cherry Fork community.

            Robert W. Letner, 57, of the Cherry Fork community is dead following a Thursday night shooting at 1925 Cherry Fork Road in Oneida.  Letner’s brother, identified as Raymond Letner, age unknown, was also injured in the incident.  A third person, identified as Steven Christopher Sexton, 52, of Oneida has been jailed on unrelated charges.

            Citing a pending investigation, authorities are not releasing any detailed information about the shooting; however, WBNT has learned the trio was apparently all present at the scene Thursday night.  Raymond Letner was transported from the scene to St. Mary’s Medical Center of Scott County.  The nature or extent of his injuries was not disclosed, but he was reportedly released from the hospital later that evening.

            Robert Letner’s body has been sent to the Forensics Center at the University of Tennessee for an autopsy.

            After the shooting, Sexton was reportedly detained for questioning.  He was later booked on unrelated charges, including possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, violation of probation (from Scott County General Sessions Court),  and revocation of a suspended sentence (from Scott County Criminal Court).  Sexton is being held in the Scott County Jail without bond.  He is scheduled to be arraigned in Scott County General Sessions Court on Monday.  He will have a hearing on the revocation in criminal court on October 10, 2011.
