Former Chief Deputy Charged Following Accident

Huntsville, TN (2011-12-05) A former Scott County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy has been booked on alcohol related charges following an accident in the parking lot of the Scott County Justice Center.

Marty D. Carson, 37, of Helenwood, was charged with driving under the influence, and violation of the open container law. According to a citation filed by Trooper Larry Blakeney of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Carson, the driver of a Chevrolet pickup, allegedly struck a Scott County owned vehicle in the parking lot in front of the Scott County Justice Center. Carson, stated the affidavit, allegedly had slurred speech, an odor of alcoholic beverage on his person, and failed a field sobriety test. Trooper Blakeney alleged in his affidavit that he noted an open 24 ounce container of alcohol in the console of Carson’s vehicle.

Ironically, Carson was reportedly bringing his brother, Jason Carson, to serve time for a prior DUI conviction.
