Former Chief Deputy Charged Following
Accident
Huntsville, TN
(2011-12-05) A former Scott County Sheriff’s
Department Chief Deputy has been booked on alcohol related charges following an
accident in the parking lot of the Scott
County Justice
Center.
Marty
D. Carson, 37,
of Helenwood, was charged with driving under the influence, and violation of
the open container law. According to a citation filed by Trooper Larry Blakeney of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Carson, the driver
of a Chevrolet pickup, allegedly struck a Scott
County owned vehicle in the parking
lot in front of the Scott
County Justice
Center. Carson, stated the affidavit, allegedly had
slurred speech, an odor of alcoholic beverage on his person, and failed a field
sobriety test. Trooper Blakeney alleged in his
affidavit that he noted an open 24 ounce container of alcohol in the console of
Carson’s
vehicle.
Ironically,
Carson was
reportedly bringing his brother, Jason Carson, to serve time for a prior DUI
conviction.
