Tennessee Highway Patrol to Welcome New Trooper Cadets

(2012-01-20) The Tennessee Highway Patrol will formally welcome Trooper
Cadet Class 512 on Monday at the agency’s Training Center. The class will include one cadet from Scott County.
Stephen Barclay,
a Scott County Correctional Officer at the Scott
County Justice
Center, will be one of 54 cadets that
will begin five months of intense training at the Tennessee
Law Enforcement
Academy in Nashville on Monday. The new cadets will spend the next 18 weeks
participating in classroom exercises and physical training, with graduates
advancing to a maximum of 12 weeks of field training. The more than 920 hours
of classroom training is divided into 12 major categories including criminal
and constitutional law, patrol procedures, professional ethical conduct and
firearms.
Trooper Cadet
Class 512 is comprised of 21 individuals with prior military experience and 31
former public servants, including those with careers in law enforcement,
dispatch communications, and corrections.
The average age
of the class is 30.
Barclay is the
son of Assistant District Attorney General Tom Barclay.
